A dedicated learning experience has been created for children of all ages. Children around Australia are learning about gardening in schools, at home, in community gardens and at events like this. Kids love gardening – growing flowers and food, playing with earthworms and chickens, learning about nature, creating fantasy spaces in the garden and playing games. Kids Zone 2018 is a place where children can expand their knowledge and imagination in the garden. Note: Children must have an accompanying adult with them at all times while at the Brisbane Garden & Plant Expo.
Hands-on Fun with Plants
Explore the exciting world of plants using the senses of smell, touch, sight and sound with the Education Officers from the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens. Try your hand at hands-on art activities by using shape, line, colour and texture drawing artistic inspiration from nature. Investigate the needs of living things and how these needs are met by the habitats they live in.
See live reptiles at this display. Snakes and lizards are valuable creatures of the Australian bush and can often find their way into gardens. These fascinating presentations will incorporate increased awareness of reptiles, specifically snakes, and help people reduce their fear of snakes.
Have you ever patted or cuddled a chicken? Do you know how easy they are to look after? City Chicks offers a fun and educational presentation on the topics of ‘Crazy Chickens, Daffy Ducks and Stingless Bee Stuff’. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn more about chickens, ducks and observe native stingless bees in their hives.
